South Africa’s last Apartheid President Frederik Willem de Klerk has passed on at the age of 85 years. The FW de Klerk Foundation released a statement announcing his passing earlier on Thursday.
It says that the former President died peacefully at his home in Fresnaye earlier this (Thursday) morning following his struggle against mesothelioma cancer.
De Klerk served as President from 1989 to 1994. He was also the Deputy President from 1994 to 1996. He was the 7 th and the last head of the South Africa state under the apartheid era.
He is survived by his wife Elita, his children Jan and Susan, and his grandchildren.
The family will, in due course, make an announcement regarding funeral arrangements.
